Del Mar News                                         April 25, 2018

Dear Del Mar Community,

Beginning next week, all of our students will engage in the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) stateside testing.

Testing will take place:

Wednesday, 5/2 & Thursday, 5/3 - ELA

Wednesday, 5/9 & Thursday, 5/10 - Math

Tuesday, 5/15 - Science

Grade 6, 7 & 8- Math and English Tests  The CAASPP exams will take place May 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th, from approximately  8:20am-10:30am.  During these four days, all students will take the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics. Each day will include about 2 hours of testing.

Grade 8- Science Test  The California Science Test (CAST) will be given to all students in grade eight (8) on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 8:20am-10:20am. All 6th and 7th grade students will participate in advisory program, including an assembly.

At Del Mar Middle School, our students have always had a respectable participation rate and perform well above the state average. We want to continue and enhance this success so please help us support students to attend school on time and perform to the best of their ability.

As many of you may know, California recently implemented a new way to display school performance data. Each school in the state now has its own Dashboard which includes visual displays, graphs, and pie charts reflecting how well the school and similar schools are meeting standards in several categories. The academic category uses CAASPP data to display academic performance. The dashboard is highly accessible and visible to colleges, the community, and the public. Our school rating is based on our students' performance and improvement on these exams.

Please read the attached letter and FAQ sheet for additional information regarding the CAASPP.

Thank you,

Brian Lynch, Principal

Redwood High School is hosting Matt Bellace, Ph.D. who will be speaking on Teens Making Healthy Choices on Thursday night at 7:00 in the small gym. Please see flyer for more details.
