RUSD cares about student safety when traveling to and from school. RUSD encourages families to review information and follow the direction of our law enforcement partners. Our collaborative efforts will support the safety of our students and community.

Bus Program

YELLOW BUS CHALLENGE

The Town of Tiburon, the City of Belvedere and Reed Union School District (RUSD) operate the Tiburon Peninsula Traffic Relief Joint Powers Authority (JPA), which manages the Yellow Bus program, with operational support provided by Marin Transit.

Safety Tips

Electric Scooters (e-scooters) & Electric Bikes (e-bikes)

California Vehicle Code (CVC) §§312.5, 12804.9, 21113, 24016, & 407.5

Electric scooters require drivers to be at least 16 years old and to have a driver's license.
Class 3 e-bikes are illegal for students under the age of 16.
Class 1 e-bikes are acceptable for students under age 16.
Helmets are required for anyone under the age of 16 when riding an e-bike.
Law enforcement states that most of the Class 2 e-bikes (specifically models of Super73 e-bikes) are considered more like motorcycles and are considered more like a Class 3 (even though they may be marketed as a Class 2).
RUSD only allows e-scooters and e-bikes at our school campuses in accordance with the law. As such, only Class 1 e-bikes and some limited Class 2 e-bikes are allowable for student use based on their age with the use of a helmet.
RUSD encourages families to utilize the Police Department as their best resource for clarification on e-bike classification and to answer questions related to e-bikes, e-scooters, and the law.
