FAQs PreK Registration

PreK is a grade between preschool and kindergarten. The curriculum is designed to meet and support the developmental and social-emotional needs and interests of 4-year-old students. The program draws from the California Preschool Curriculum Framework and readiness standards for kindergarten.

No. Families with age-eligible children have the option to enroll in PreK.

The State of California has designed a multi-year phase-in model which will provide pre-kindergarten for all 4-year-olds by the 2025-26 school year.

The Reed Union School District serves Belvedere, Tiburon, and a portion of east Corte Madera. There are some areas which are not part of the District, even though they may appear to be part of Tiburon and may indeed carry Tiburon in their mailing address. Cypress Hollow, Strawberry, and Strawberry Point areas are in the Mill Valley School District. The Marin County Assessor's Office (415-499-7215, X6) can quickly answer whether an address is in a particular school district by simply looking to see what school district receives your school property tax dollars.  You may also contact the Superintendent's Office at 415-381-1112 for further information concerning district boundaries or check here: RUSD District Boundaries.

No, only current District residents who have verified their residency through the accepted forms of proof required by the District may register.

Registration is online.  RUSD partners with the software provider Actionaly for a two-step process:

• Click on the pre-registration link to upload documents required by the District.

• After the District has verified documents, you will receive an email from Actionaly with another link to complete the second part of the registration process. 

• Please complete the required information in a timely manner.  Your child will be fully registered after both parts of the process are finished.

Registration begins in January. Families who move into the District after this date will still be able to register.

Reed School strictly follows the California Department of Education guidelines with regard to age-eligibility and grade level placement. Children born within the PreK age-eligibility range (listed above) will be placed in PreK. Children who turn 5 on or before September 1 are enrolled in kindergarten. Teachers and specialists are well-prepared to meet, support, and nurture the range of developmental learning needs within each grade level.

You will be asked to upload documents required by the district. It’s best to scan the documents so they upload clearly. If you don’t have a scanner, you can use the Actionaly app to take a picture of your documents.

Yes, the same vaccination criteria apply.

Please complete a separate registration for each child.

Yes. Breakfast and lunch are free for everyone:

• The vendor is LunchMaster. 

• You do not place an order.

• The monthly menu is published so that families can look at the options and decide if they would like to pack a lunch or have their child opt for school lunch.

Breakfast times are as follows:

• Reed Elementary at 8:05 AM

• Bel Aire at 7:30 AM

• Del Mar at 8:00 AM

No NUTS on campus.

PreK is will be fully integrated into the broader Reed School community. PreK students participate in schoolwide events and activities as well as Foundation-supported specialist classes including PE, art, and music.

Class sizes range between 18-20 and will follow a 1:10 adult to child ratio. This includes a credentialed teacher and a teaching assistant.

Yes. PreK is part of the California public school system. Consistent with K-12, daily attendance is mandatory and will be recorded. This is an important consideration for families prior to enrollment. Some families may decide that a more flexible schedule is best for their family and choose to participate in the private preschool system.

Yes. All 3 schools (Reed, Bel Aire & Del Mar) follow the same school calendar. 

PreK is a full day. The daily schedule aligns with the current K-2 schedule (8:30 AM-2:40 PM & 8:30 AM-1:40 PM on Wednesdays).

Reed School provides all the school supplies your child will need!  PreK and Kindergartners will receive a Reed tote bag that they will bring to school each day (only 1st and 2nd graders bring backpacks).  Children should have appropriate shoes for PE (sneakers) and daily recess.
