    GRADUATION CEREMONY SEATING FAQs

    WHY DOES IT ONLY ALLOW ME TO SELECT A QUANTITY OF ONE SEAT ?
    One seat on the Brown Paper Ticket (BPT) site equals one block of three seats at the ceremony. We know it is confusing, but it was the only way we could design this layout to avoid having unused single seats in the middle of rows.

    HOW DO I CHOOSE MY OWN SEAT?
    The Brown Paper Ticket (BPT) system will initially choose the best block of seats for you. Beneath the seating chart you can click “choose my own seats” if you would like to change your seat location. In order to choose your own seat, you have to unclick the seat that was assigned to you.

    WHY DOES IT ONLY SAY I GOT ONE SEAT ON MY PRINTED TICKET?
    Your seat on your ticket represents a block of THREE seats. Thus, if your ticket says Seat A7, that means you have seat block A7, which is a block of three seats that are all labeled A7.

    I HAVE MORE THAN 3 PEOPLE IN MY FAMILY THAT WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND.  WHAT SHOULD I DO?
    We will have overflow chair seating in the back and a lot of standing room.  Many siblings enjoy the flexibility of standing behind the chairs or sitting on the grass on “chill hill” to watch the ceremony.  

    WHAT IF I ONLY NEED 2 SEATS?
    Seats can only be reserved in a block of three.  Someone looking for overflow seating will gladly fill your open seat on graduation day.

    WHAT IF I HAVE TWO GRADUATING 8TH GRADERS?
    To be fair, each family only gets one block of three seats.

    WHAT ABOUT ACCESS FOR PEOPLE WITH LIMITED MOBILITY?
    Please avoid any walking accomodations in the middle aisle, as the students will be walking down that aisle during the ceremony. Booking next to the far right and far left aisles would be the most ideal to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, etc.

    HOW CAN YOU STOP FAMILIES FROM RESERVING MORE THAN ONE BLOCK OF SEATS?
    When you reserve your block of seats, you will be asked for your name and your child’s name. We will compare the reserved tickets to a list of 8th grade students to make sure that every student only has one block of tickets.  To be fair to all the families, we will automatically cancel any extra blocks booked.

    DO I HAVE TO PRINT OUT MY TICKETS AND BRING THEM TO THE CEREMONY?
    You do not need to bring a printed ticket to the ceremony, but it might be a helpful way to remind you where your seats are. You will also have an e-mail record of your seats so you can use your phone as your reminder. Ushers with also be there with master lists to help you locate your block of seats.

    WHERE IS THE GRADUATION CEREMONY LOCATED?
    The ceremony is held outside on the school blacktop facing the track.  

    WHAT TIME DOES THE GRADUATION CEREMONY START?
    The ceremony begins promptly at 4:30pm. Everyone should be seated by 4:25pm.


    HOW LONG IS THE CEREMONY?  WILL THERE BE SHADE?
    The ceremony will last approximately one hour.  There are no shade structures covering the graduation stage or the audience chairs.  In extreme heat, some people may choose to stand under the overhang near the hot lunch windows.

    Graduation Events Schedule

    Monday, June 3rd, Six Flags Trip (If you have not returned your permission slip, please do so)

    8:15am Arrive at school as usual

    9:00am Depart for Six Flags

    4:00pm Return to Del Mar

    Please pack a healthy snack for the bus ride. Lunch will be provided for your student.

    Wednesday, June 12th, Graduation Ceremony and Party

    Please note that there will be a mandatory graduation practice this day. Students who are not there for the practice will not be able walk in the ceremony.

    8:15 - 2:05 Regular school day

    3:45 Graduates Arrive to Del Mar

    3:45 Family Reception - blacktop

    4:00 OfficialClass Photo- Amphitheatre

    4:30 Graduation Procession and Ceremony- blacktop

    5:45 Traditional Grad Parade through Tiburon.

    All RUSD families are invited to stop by Trinity House Paintings, a new art gallery at 82 Main Street (on Ark Row) for wine and cheese as the parade passes by and to stay and celebrate while the students attend the party.

    6:45 Grad Party at Secret Venue

    9:00 Pick up Grads at party location (will be announced at ceremony)

    Graduation Attire

    We rely on the good taste and judgment of parents in this matter; however, students are expected to abide by our school dress code.

    Reception

    While the 8th graders are taking their class photo we invite you to the pre-ceremony reception. Enjoy refreshments and light snacks.

    Graduation Seating/Admission (ALSO-SEE ABOVE LETTER)

    For the ceremony, each 8th grade family will be able to reserve one block of THREE seats. We are trying something new this year and using an online ticketing system, Brown Paper Tickets. On Monday, June 3rd at noon, you willreceive a link that will allow you to reserve your block ofseats at your preferred location. If you decide not to reserve seats or need more than three seats, there will be overflow seating and plenty of room to stand.

    Parking Ceremony

    The Del Mar parking lot is reserved for the Parade Cable Cars and handicap parking only. Ceremony: The Del Mar parking lot is reserved for the Parade Cable Cars and handicap parking only. There is street parking on Avenida Miraflores and Hilary Drive.

    Parade Route

    This is the 25th year of the Del Mar Graduation Parade. Please take 15 minutes after the ceremony to take family photos with your graduate. The graduates will then be asked to load onto their preassigned cable car. There will be a teacher and a parent checking the students as they load the cars. The parade will depart from the Del Mar parking lot and proceed downtown along Tiburon Boulevard, loop around in front of the ferry/waterfront, then do two loops around Beach Road and Ark Row, then end up delivering grads to the secret party location. Your child must have a signed permission slip to participate in the Cable Car Parade. Parents, please depart the ceremony quickly in order to view the parade. Find a spot along Tiburon Boulevard or Ark Row to cheer on the graduates as they go by!

    When in town viewing the parade, think about supporting our localrestaurants and businesses while your child is at the party.     Graduation Party - for graduates only

    Tradition dictates that the Grad Party theme and venue be a secret. Graduates will be driven in the Classic Cable Cars to the party. There, they will enjoy dinner, music, and entertainment. This party is chaperoned by Del Mar staff and 7th grade parent volunteers.

    It is important that everyone understand these few rules:

    1. Only Del Mar 2019 graduates are allowed. No visitors, including parents or siblings.

    2. Students must remain in the designated party area throughout the entire evening.

    3. Students may not leave before 9:00 pm. The party is over at 9:00 pm sharp, so please arrive promptly to retrieve your child. Chaperones will not be able to leave the party until allstudents have been picked up.

    Official 2019 Class Photo and Ceremony Photos

    Photographer Lara Martinez, a Del Mar teacher, will take the entire class photo prior to the ceremony as well as photos during the graduation ceremony, reception and parade. We strongly encourage you to use this option as attempting to photograph your own child can be extremely disruptive to other proud parents. Please be courteous to others by not leaving your seat during the ceremony for "photo opps". Thank you Ms. Martinez!

    Graduation Donation

    We still need donations! If you haven't donated, please consider make the $150 donation. Your donation covers the expenses of the ceremony, the graduation party including dinner and entertainment, a digital copy of the class slide show, and a link to graduation and party photos. This fee will also include entrance, transportation and lunch for the year-end field trip to Six Flags.
