    Dear Families:

It was wonderful to see everyone at last week's Back-to- School Night event. I hope you found the evening informative and you left with excitement for your child's academic year at Del Mar!

    Technology:
Recently, all Del Mar students were given lap tops to support the teaching and learning process. With greater access, comes greater responsibility. Our teachers will be dedicating time throughout the school year to engage all students thoughtfully with curriculum around technology and appropriate technology use. As parents, you are navigating new territory, and I wanted to pass along a great resource should questions arise with how to support your child's use of technology. Please take time to visit the following website: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/parent-concerns.

    Online Grades:
As teachers shared at Back to School Night, our district has adopted a new student information system, called ALMA. We want to ensure we are confident with how to use this new program so it accurately reports student progress without miscommunicating information to families and causing undue stress.  We anticipate giving access at the end of September or first week in October.

I encourage you to speak with your child about what she or he is learning, keeping the focus on positive and scholarly work habits and the learning itself-the questions and ideas raised in class.

Home / School Communication:  Reminder-Teacher websites provide information on assignments and other class information. Encourage your child to speak with adults at school if she/he has questions, ideas, or needs support.  Please forward any questions or concerns you may still have to the teacher or staff member most directly involved. We are looking forward to working together this year to support your child in having a positive and productive experience at school.

Attendance:  Please remember to call the absence line when your   student will be out.  Call the main number, 415-435-1468, and
    press 4.

Peanut Allergies:  Please try not to send peanuts or peanut                   products to school with your child.  We have students with severe nut       allergies and would like to limit the chances for exposure.

    Best regards,

    Brian Lynch
