I am a proud Reed Foundation sponsored teacher of art. My classroom is a powerful space to build problem-solving skills, promote cooperative learning and self-esteem. Students explore, create and use their imagination in art class. We use a wide variety of materials such as, and not limited to, oil pastels, chalk pastels, tempera paint, watercolor, clay, and block printing ink. Students begin to self-critique and assess their work and the work of their classmates as well as fine works of art. Art appreciation begins in kindergarten and continues to 5th grade, becoming more sophisticated by the time they leave my class. It is so rewarding watching my students grow as artists and it is always bittersweet when they leave for middle school after our long journey of art and exploration.
