The Reed Schools PTA
The Parent Teacher Association is a membership-based national organization - the largest parent involvement organization in the United States with nearly 6 million members. PTA was created to better the lives of children and build bridges between homes and schools, integrating the efforts of parents with those of principals and teachers. While national and California state PTA provide the framework and support (and work on behalf of children in Sacramento and Washington DC), as a local PTA, we have control over decisions on finances, programs and activities.
What is the local PTA structure?
RUSD PTA is one PTA, serving all three campuses. PTA has one Executive Board (11 parents) with representatives from all 3 school sites, and three active Site Committees (8-12 parents/site & the principal). In addition, PTA has event- and committee-chairs for the many PTA-sponsored events and activities throughout the year. In all, over 150 parents serve as officers or event/committee chairs! PTA also organizes classroom volunteers, drives (and funds) field trips and runs the very popular Lunch Program! There are lots of opportunities -both big and small- to volunteer through PTA!
Membership
RUSD PTA is launching our membership drive - your membership and voice are important! Please take a moment to fill out the short questionnaire. Membership dues are $20 (you only need to fill out one form!). Most of the dues stay with RUSD PTA for parent education programs and staff development & appreciation. A small percentage goes to advocacy efforts at the state and national levels (our eyes and ears in the capitols.) There are many parent resources offered through www.pta.org. If you have questions about membership, please call Jean Lin at 435-3195.
PTA Annoucement
Kid Chow organic school lunches coming to RUSD Fall 2009!
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Kid Chow at RUSD this fall. Long time San Francisco residents, Rob and Jamie Feuerman, started Kid Chow 7 years ago with a mission to serve locally-sourced, healthy, kid and planet friendly lunches to bay area schools. Kid Chow now serves thousands of lunches to bay area students, including their own two kids (6th and 3rd graders), at more than 30 schools. Kid Chow’s lunches consistently have received rave reviews from kids and parents alike.
Kid Chow’s unique school lunch program offers schools a VIRTUAL CAFETERIA that allows students to order from a broad selection of hot and cold lunch items each day: organic fruits & veggies, burritos, quesadillas, savory chicken and beef pot pies, warm pastas, bbq chicken with mashed potatoes, all natural hamburgers, chicken apple sausages, veggie sushi, salads, sandwiches, yogurts and more. Even better, each lunch can be customized to your child’s own taste.
Kid Chow’s lunch service is incredibly convenient and flexible. They have a website that enables parents to order and pay for lunches online via credit card. Look for Kid Chow’s welcome letter coming soon. Feel free to visit Kid Chow’s website www.kidchow.com to download Kid Chow’s current menu and learn more about Kid Chow’s lunch program.
