We are committed to every child becoming a confident learner and a respectful, responsible citizen by nurturing, teaching, and inspiring each child to thrive in a challenging, dynamic world.
Reed School is a K-2 school within the Reed Union School District. Reed Elementary School delivers a comprehensive academic program that is aligned to California State Frameworks and Content Standards. All instructional decisions are based on current research and best practices in education. On-going professional development coupled with effective constructive communication between school community members are the key components of our success. Reed School was named a California Distinguished School in 2002.
Reed School is a very cohesive and mutually supportive collegial community. Teachers, support personnel, students, parents and community members are actively encouraged to take on leadership roles and participatory decision making to support and encourage our students. This occurs through grade level parent meetings, the School site Council meetings, Parent Teacher Association meetings, as well as many special events. The staff works together to establish a great sense of participation for the entire school community.
Reed School follows the core academic content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education. These standards cover in four curriculum areas: English-language arts, mathematics, history-social science, and science. The core content standards are the basis for the subject matter frameworks, the adoption of instructional materials, and the standards-aligned tests in California's student performance assessment system. The District is a member of the Education Task Force (ETF), a collaborative of twelve school districts (Bolinas-Stinson, Kentfield, Lagunitas, Larkspur, Mill Valley, Nicasio, Reed, Ross, Ross Valley, Sausalito Marin City, Tamalpais High School District, and the College of Marin).
Through collaboration, ETF districts pool resources and share expertise to do work that would not be possible for our individual districts to perform on our own. Our shared mission is to meet the needs of all students with special attention to those who are most academically at risk. ETF works together to ensure a curriculum continuum from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our shared work includes an extensive professional development program locally developed performance assessments, and curriculum articulation. This cooperation encourages the exchange of expertise, ideas and resources among districts and across grade levels.
