Communication in the Reed Union School District
The Reed Union School District recognizes the importance of creating and maintaining effective channels of communication between school and home. In order to provide important information to our families in a timely way, these are the primary communications tools we use:
Please note: you will receive an email from the Superintendent's Office every Wednesday, one week will be Headline News, the next week will be Calendar Updates.
Headline News is on the District web site (www.reedschools.org/rusdheadlinenews.html), and parents are notified of new postings via an email every other week. RUSD Headline News is the District's primary tool for regular communication, providing important information to parents, who receive an email when the updated information has been posted to the District and school web sites. Headline News will now be sent by the Superintendent's Office instead of the school secretaries and will have links directly to the schools web pages. PTA and Foundation updates can be found in each school principal newsletter, as well.
Calendar Updates are emailed to parents every two weeks, in the weeks between Headline News postings. These will also be sent from the Superintendent's Office.
District Web Site Home Page (www.reedschools.org) contains links to important, ongoing issues, such as the state budget crisis, H1N1 flu updates (Healthy Guidelines), etc.
District Important Dates for District-wide and individual school events are posted on the web site at the Calendar tab on the top of the web page.
Global Connect is our web-based parent notification system for getting urgent news or emergency information to parents via email, cell, home phone, and text message.
School Web Sites with school and PTA news and links to teachers' web sites.
Email from Principals and Teachers with general school and classroom information or specific information sent to you regarding your child.
Email from the Superintendent when news (other than emergencies) affecting the entire District needs to be shared, such as local road closures, police incidents, or news items that affect our local community.
Please be sure to check the information below for trouble-shooting tips for any problems you might have accessing the District or school web pages or any links on the pages. If these tips don't resolve the issue, locate the District Hot Line, then call and leave a message with your question. One of our tech gurus will get back to you with help.
YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS: My goal is to make communication of important school information as easy for parents to use as possible. Please let us know what you think of District communication methods and these changes to Headline News. The best way to do this is to email my assistant, Ellen Mayer at emayer@reedschools.org.
A Trouble Shooting Guide for Parents
Headline News Email
Email can be sent in different formats. The sender can select the one that best meets the needs of the content of that email - plain text, rich text, or HTML. The email you receive with Headline News is formatted in HTML so that images that are included can be seen by the readers as intended. If you are reading the e-mail on a computer, you may need to right click on a red X to properly view the images. If you are viewing the e-mail on a smart phone or other PDA, how images appear will depend on the settings on that device.
Because the Headline News and Calendar Update emails are sent to a relatively large group of recipients, it may go to your spam or junk folder. If you are not receiving our Wednesday communications, please check your spam/junk folder.
Headline News Web Page
There are some changes to the Headline News web page, which were made to provide the users of smart phones and PDA's with a cleaner view of the page. The page begins with news from the Superintendent, followed by links to each school and followed with links at the bottom of the page to the Calendar, The Foundation and PTA. If you are viewing Headline News on your computer, the changes should have no affect.
Browsers
Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox each have their fans, and we are fans of Firefox! We often hear from parents searching in vain for information on our web site and our first response now is to ask which browser they are using. If you are having trouble viewing or finding current information on any of our web pages, please try using Firefox and click the "refresh" button.
Headline News Help Desk:
If you are not receiving our Wednesday emails (Headline News or Calendar Updates), please call our Helpdesk at 415-383-1116 extension 3104. You can leave a message describing your problem on this helpline voicemail at any time. We will return your call.
